7 Incredible Instagram worthy spots in Charleston South Carolina

Few places spark such interest in a small city like Charleston South Carolina.  The lure of the waterfront Battery Park, the charm of the southern mansions,  and exploring the hidden gardens throughout the city.  I fell in love with Charleston when I was 19 and moved there for a year, and I have been itching to get back to this beautiful city and explore.  Being such a captivating place, it can be hard to narrow down what you want to do here and actually follow your list.  To help you stay focused, I have created a list of the most Instagram worthy spots Charleston has to offer.

1. Battery Park and White Point Gardens

This beautiful waterfront park has views Fort Sumter and the Sullivan Lighthouse not to mention the gazebos, cannons, cannonballs, southern mansions and oak trees.  This park could provide you with Instagram pictures for days.  Arrive during the golden hour for the best photos and fewest people.

2. Charleston Waterfront Pier

This pier is in the midst of all that downtown has to offer.  For the best pictures, go when it’s cold outside or really early mornings.  This pier has swings overlooking the water which make for great photo opportunities, or walk to the end of the pier and look back toward the city for a different point of view.

3. Pineapple Fountain

No trip to Charleston is complete without seeing this iconic fountain.  It will have tons of kids playing in it if it’s warm outside, so for those pictures plan to be there early morning or when it’s colder outside.

4. Memorials

Charleston is full of beautiful memorials and quite a few of them are not found readily on Instagram.  Take time to walk through small gardens and find the hidden memorials of Charleston.

5. Southern Mansions

Almost every street is lined with beautiful, colorful houses.  These are found quite easily on Instagram, but these pictures show off the southern charm and the beauty of the city, so snap away!

6. Explore the streets

Discover your own new spots by following side streets and getting off the beaten path.  While the main streets of Charleston are beautiful, the side streets are stunning!  What’s not to love about cobblestone streets and old brick gates?

7. Waterfront Park

This is an 8 acre park along the Cooper River.  Plenty of gorgeous photo opportunities are to be had along the pathway, but make sure you step off the path for some truly incredible shots.
